Casper, Wyo. - For the third straight year, Casper has been one of the stops for the World Record track and field camps. With 165 registered jumpers, runners and throwers, the line up of World Class Athletes have their hands full.
The camp does not only work on local athletes, but athletes from all around the West.
World-Class Coaching Staff
Celebrated as one who once held the World Record in the triple jump, Willie Banks began the two day camp working with 5th-12th graders on the basics.
"I have been training and doing this for forty years, the most important thing to me that I try to pass on to these young athletes, is to learn the basics and build on them. It is so great to have the Wyoming Coaches Association along with coaches here to help these students. I have witnessed many injuries and it is important to teach the proper skills to begin with." - Willie Banks
Seven Olympians Coaching
Seven Olympians and athletes were working with young track stars during the two-day camp at KWHS:
- Willie Banks - Triple Jump World Record Holder
- Becky Holliday - 2012 Olympics Pole Vaulter
- Jacqueline Hansen - Second woman to win the Boston Marathon
- Toni Campbell - Olympic Hurdler, working with sprinters and hurdlers
- Hollis Conway - NCAA Indoor Track High Jumper (7ft. 10 inches record!)
Growing Success
The camp is held nationwide, with the athletes coaching and inspiring the youngsters. The camp has been held in Japan, California and many other locations, but Casper has grown to be one of the biggest camps.
Casper continues to be a cornerstone location for World Record Camps, attracting athletes from across the Western United States.
The camp's success demonstrates the hunger young athletes have for world-class coaching and the impact that Olympic-level instruction can have on their development.
